If we had another Same Song Project - what song would you recommend?

FYI - Same Song Project: 2020 (tag)

While BINGO rounds never truly end, refreshing them every so often doesn't seem like a bad idea. The community anniversary (JANURY 30-ish) is a good target and aligns with last time.
So that means you have some warning and plenty of time to finish your Round 2 cards! :D
Check in here when you have a BINGO!

Please take a moment to review the Round 2 Prompt List and offer suggestions (additions/removals) for Round 3.

What else has been going on? How is vidding going for you?

The vid I'm working on has been going pretty well so far! It's taking a bit longer since I'm rewatching the seasons as I go rather than my usual method of relying on my memory (and/or wikis) re: where useful footage is.

I'm also starting to brainstorm Festivids fandom ideas.

I'm trying to get back into a couple of Star Wars projects.

General question, particularly for Windows users: What program(s) do you use to handle clipping? Or just how do you do it in general?

I've been using VLC media player's record button but a lot of my clips have been coming out pixelated or otherwise damaged, which has been incredibly discouraging. At first I blamed my old laptop's failing hard drive, but it's happening on my new computer too, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. Right now I'm trying to use DaVinci Resolve and rendering individual clips, but it's taking significantly more time and I don't yet know if they're coming out any better.

...I'm not sure if I really clip?

I add all the source I'm working with to my editing program (Sony Movie Studio), make subclips from the source within the program, and work with those sections.

I don't think rerendering is involved, but I could be wrong. I think you might be able to do something similar within DVR?

Hmm, good to know. I experimented with loading full episodes into my editing software several years ago but either my laptop or the (significantly less powerful) software I was using then got super laggy.

DVR does have a 'cut' page that I usually skip over, I might play around with that.

Thanks for the info!

I'm like [profile] auremcalendula and make subclips within my editing software (Vegas in my case). So no rerendering required. Although depending on source format I might have to convert it to load it into Vegas.

I do have a source prep process that I can make clips as part of, but generally all I do is trim credits there (I basically follow the process at https://www.animemusicvideos.org/guides/avtech31/, which is very old and based on the idea you will be ripping your own source!)

I see! For me clipping is mostly about organization-- labeling scenes with characters/content so they're easy to find, and once I have the source chopped up and labeled I can use it for multiple projects without redoing the prep work. I think DVR is capable of making subclips but they wouldn't carry over into new projects.

I once tried loading full episodes/movies into my editor during an early attempt at learning to vid, but the system couldn't handle that much content. I have a better laptop and software now, so I might have to give it a try again.

Is ripping from DVDs considered out of date already? Because that's how I've gotten all my sources so far...

That makes sense! I have ended up with some giant project files with eg all the robot shows I vid, so that I can make multi vids as well as single fandom vids off of that. It takes ages to open those projects, haha. (In theory I can import the subclips from one file into another; in practice if there is more than like a movie's worth of clips Vegas crashes ...)

I do still rip most of my source, but I know a lot of people don't :D And more and more often now things don't even get released on DVD ... ;;

Yeah, with the free software I initially tried using, even trying to adjust clips got super laggy when the source was longer than ~8 minutes, so that definitely affected my approach to vidding. I think DaVinci Resolve can handle bigger stuff without those issues, but I still like the organizational perks of clipping :)

I suppose DVDs will eventually go the way of VHSs, but I'll never really be a fan of the content-as-a-service entertainment model.

Thanks, I will check that out! I usually rip things as .mp4 by default, but DVR allows a lot of options for input and output formats.

I don't think I would enjoy vidding without clipping either, the couple of times I've had to go back for footage that wasn't in my immediate pool were very annoying, and I find clipping makes it easier to earmark short scenes that I might forget about just scanning through a 2+ hour movie.
