Hi Vidders!

The current challenge over @ vexercises is Vexercise 4: Lyrical Play. Have you done any of the challenges in this community? What did you like about them? What did you struggle with?

The call for vidders is open @ womansplace. ALL VIDDERS WELCOME - offers open until July 23rd, bidding will go up on July 24th. The community is also currently open for recs.

This round is the first time I'm participating in vexercises. Initially I was a bit intimidated - although I really can't say why *brain weasels?*
NGL, I'm thoroughly enjoying the freedom to tackle some vid bunnies that have been hanging around forever by cutting them into 1 min vids.
The only thing I struggle with is that I'm learning I don't organize/vid like I'm seeing others might be doing - and I use Final Cut Pro, so some of the guides or links aren't relevant. That isn't horribly important though, because I'm finding using the concepts of the challenges are interesting.

AND... I have 1 more vid to make for my BINGO card. I've changed the idea to one using Strange New Worlds so now am faced with the dreaded clipping activity.
I just keep getting distracted - LOL!

This is my first year attempting Vexercises! I like that they've helped me make stuff for a source I've been meaning to vid (I like Legend of Yunze, but I had no particular ideas or songs in mind). I think the hardest thing has been not overthinking things, tbh.

I think I might be skipping challenge 4 for now and maybe revisiting it later. I'm not really fond of non-source (or non-subtitle) text in vids, and I'm in the middle of a Gu Xiang Word of Honor vid draft.

Same here!

I find it interesting to hear how other people organize/vid! I use Sony Movie Studio, which I don't think a lot of people do anymore. I also don't clip (although I do make subclips of the episodes/movie in my editor) - partially because I find it tedious and partially because it makes it easier if I have to replace a file.

I'm thinking it might be a good opportunity to practice some text stuff that I could later use in opening titles. Good luck on your Gu Xiang vid!!

I did the vexercises in a previous round, and found it a good excuse to play around and try different things :) Although sometimes I was like, yup, I am never going to do that again (the lyrical play exercise being a case in point!) And it encouraged me to make more short vids too!

I am in a bit of a lull with vidding at the moment, although I have a range of barely started projects ... I just need to get to the point where something really grabs me.

Making short vids is freeing and frustrating all at once. I have at least two of them that I wanted more of the song to "make my point", but resisted it to stay in line with the challenge. I might cave and make them longer some day (but probably not). Freeing because it feels like I can actually put together a vid in a shorter amount of time, scratching the itch for something and moving on the next one.

Yeah, sometimes the "getting started" phase of vidding is that hardest.
